Making use of Nature’s resources
Good News! It has long been a FOBB dream to create a landmark of some sort, made from natural materials to enhance our valley. Last year, after a storm, nature provided us with an uprooted fallen oak tree in Saint Annes Woods, so we had the natural building blocks. All we needed was some money to turn this into a beautiful sculpture!

Thanks to Jackie’s skills with funding and grant applications, we now have the opportunity and funds, to make this happen. We have long since admired Andy O’Neill ‘s work in Stoke Park, using fallen trees in situ, to create beautiful wooden sculptures, much loved by both children and adults and are delighted with his crocodile design for the tree made possible by CIL funding from BCC!

A team from FOBB recently met up with Andy on site near the well and discussed our plans for a 15 – 20-foot-long dragon to be carved out of the oak and some chairs which we hope will last for decades and become a much-loved asset in Saint Anne’s woods. Designs have been agreed by Bristol City Council and Andy will hopefully start in February 2026. Watch this space!
