Jo giving our dragon a smooch on the nose

The dragon has landed!

Andy O’Neill, the wood sculptor responsible for carving the Dragon has finished the first stage of his work and what an impact this has made already. He has received more than 300 likes on his Instagram and the positive response from adults and children alike in the woods has been brilliant.  We all have nothing but praise for Andy’s work.

So, we now have our dragon.  Protector of forest and woods – you may have noticed that Andy has sculpted leaves in place of scales, an incredible visionary idea which ensures the dragon blends in with its surroundings and fulfils its role.

Phase 2 will be carving the remaining rounds of oak. With possibly some smaller animals which will include a kingfisher (the name of the local school).

Andy will also wait until the dragon has dried out a bit, before oiling the exterior to preserve it.

Jackie is organising a clean-up of the site next Wednesday (24th Feb) morning, 10 am by the sculpture.  All are welcome, just come along.

There will be a naming competition for children.  Watch this space…. Details will be put on social media, and contact made with the local school.

The piece has been funded from a CIL grant FOBB won from Bristol City Council, and you can see more of Andy’s fantastic work on his website: https://wildwoodcarving.co.uk/
